Plularism

Pluralism is a concept in which  society is plural in relation to its social and political systems. It suggests a paradigm to see plurality as ingredient of a society. It is a social interaction within various groups in the society. The interaction sometimes gets disharmony because each group in the society has its own characteristics.

The social harmony can be achieved when each groups and individuals in the society develop respect and tolerance. Tolerance is the core point in pluralism. The concept of pluralism is a mere lip service without any level of tolerance. The notion of “Torang Samua Basudara” in North Sulawesi reflects the spirit of tolerance. Torang Samua Basudara literary means we are all brothers and sisters. It carries the spirit to the people that in order to create the brotherhood we need to treat every individual as our brother. Living on the value, North Sulawesi has developed and well-known as the most harmony region nationwide where the society with different religion, cultures and ethnics interacting inside it.

In a plural society, conflict might happen if the conflicting party is insisting and put aside the tolerance. In this millennium era where people are moving fast and the competition in all aspects of life is getting tighter, the possibility and potency of conflict is also higher. The campaign  of Torang Samua Basudara  value should be always sounded and prioritized to overcome the conflict potency. Let us make Torang Samua Basudara as our way of life to keep harmony.
