British English/American English Vocabulary

Ada berbagai variasi penggunaan Bahasa Inggris, tetapi ada dua variasi yang paling banyak di gunakan dalam program pengajaran bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa asing yaitu British English dan American English.

Tidak ada satu variasi yang dianggap paling benar, yang terpenting adalah konsistensi penggunaannya, khususnya untuk penggunaan tulisan formal. Misalnya,” I like both the color and flavour  of the orange.” Penulisan color adalah American English sedangkan flavour adalah British English. Tentunya tidak gampang untuk menghafal perbedaan ini. Cara yang mudah dilakukan untuk mengecek apakah sebuah vocabulary adalah American atau British adalah dengan menggunakan spelling check pada program pengolah kata yang kita gunakan pada saat mengetik tulisan yang kita buat.

Berikut ini adalah daftar perbedaan penggunaan kosa kata antara British English dan American English. Daftar di bawah ini hanya sebagai acuan.
